A LITTLE ABOUT ME.
I’m Shirin Donia and I’ve been working as a professional artist for almost two decades. My focus is modern portrait painting, and today my work can be found in private collections around the world. But there’s still one moment I love most when I paint: when suddenly, out of colors and shapes, someone starts looking back at me. When an abstract painting becomes a person.
I feel connected to my portrait paintings. They really are a little like my babies, and when I walk into my studio in the morning, the first thing I do is call out: “I’m back!” As long as none of them answers, everything is fine. ;-)

Rather than simply painting from a photograph, I incorporate personal details into the background of the artwork – such as photos, texts or maps that tell the story of the person portrayed.
This turns a portrait into a piece of art filled with memories, little stories and details that capture what makes that person unique.
Alongside my own collections, I create these one-of-a-kind commissioned portraits for private collectors, companies and, every now and then, a familiar face.
