Why Shirin David gave me a warm hug...
Hey you,
who doesn't know her - Shirin David. Not just a woman with a beautiful name ;-), but a true icon whose voice radiates pure power. Did you know that she is the daughter of a Lithuanian and an Iranian and was born in Germany? This multicultural background flows into her music and sometimes makes her the target of misunderstandings and prejudices. But that's also what makes her music so unique, because it reflects her own experiences and emotions.
Now you have to hear how it came about that she embraced me with all her heart...
I had the honour of painting a portrait for Shirin David. My task was to create a work of art that reflects her story and her diversity.
The painting was meant to honour her femininity but also show her tough side. It shows Shirin David in a pink dress, studded with rhinestones, surrounded by a mixture of elements that reflect my personal relationship with her and her music. The background consists of her most famous song texts and lyrics such as ‘Lieben wir’, ‘Ich darf das’, ‘90-60-11’ and the current joint song with Helene Fischer ‘Atemlos durch die Nacht’. The painting also features photos from her childhood and of her family to show her roots and origins. Pictures from her time as a judge on ‘The Voice of Germany’ emphasise her role as a mentor and promoter of talent. And of course there are maps of Germany, Iran and Lithuania, which emphasise her connection to the different cultures.
It's a mixture of different symbols that reflect Shirin David and her music. It's also a reminder that we all have a story that makes us unique and that we have the ability to shape our own future.
