Buying art or paintings in Frankfurt am Main

1. Art Prints or Artprints in Frankfurt: Where to Buy

Art prints are often the most affordable way to acquire "artwork." However, this doesn't mean they're inferior. There are many stunning and aesthetically pleasing art prints available. The variety is vast, both in terms of price and executiong.

Frequently, these are posters that can be framed and hung. Canvas prints are also a popular form of art print. A common destination for such items is "Ikea"1. Indeed, you can find very attractive art prints there for a modest price. Naturally, you can purchase art or art prints at our Ikea stores in Frankfurt, Hanau, and Wiesbaden. The downside, of course, is that you're likely not going to be the only one owning such an art print.

2. Buy Limited Editions in Frankfurt:

Lumas immediately comes to mind. They usually or almost always offer predominantly modern artworks or photographs printed on acrylic glass as limited editions. Additionally, the MMK (Museum of Modern Art) offers limited edition art prints.

3a. Buying Originals / Paintings in Frankfurt: "Art on the Street"

While I don't know all art sellers in Frankfurt and its surroundings, there are many diverse ways to acquire artwork here, so I'll attempt to mention some options. Let's start with Frankfurt's street artists. They can often be found on the Zeil shopping street. Additionally, there are several stalls at street festivals like the Museumsuferfest or the large flea market by the Main river. My colleague and I have also exhibited twice at the Museumsuferfest in Frankfurt, on the artists' lawn located directly on the Main between Holbeinsteg and the rowing club.

3b. Buying Originals / Paintings in Frankfurt: "Directly from the Studio“

In my opinion, this is the most exciting way to buy art. Here, you can look over the artist's shoulder and get an authentic behind-the-scenes glimpse of the artwork. Many artists are willing to welcome visitors and potential buyers into their sacred halls - the studio. The downside is that you must decide on a specific artistic style or at least an artist in advance, and of course, you need to know which artist and what kind of art can be found where.

It can be helpful to ask friends and acquaintances, as many have an artist they can recommend somewhere in their circle. Most artists are also represented on social media nowadays, where you can browse a bit to decide which artists you'd like to visit in their studio.

3c. Buying Originals / Paintings in Frankfurt: "Art at a Vernissage"

Many companies, banks, and doctors decorate their premises with art.

Very often, a vernissage is organized for this occasion. Here, interested parties have the opportunity to meet the artist and buy a work that they could previously view in the ambiance of the host.

3d. Buying Originals / Paintings in Frankfurt: "Art from a Gallery"

As in all major cities, there are several art galleries in Frankfurt am Main.

A large collection of various galleries can be found near the Frankfurt Römer. Here too, you can research online in advance to find out what form of art is currently being presented in which gallery. However, a leisurely stroll through the streets around the Römer will also provide insight.

I hope I could give you some suggestions on the topic of buying art in Frankfurt or buying paintings in Frankfurt.
